STOCK EXCHANGES INTEREST IN COLES Markets in the main were fairly steady on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. A feature of the day was the sharp »rise in Coles, cum rights, to business and buyers at 15s 3d, on the strength of the company’s offer to buy all the ordinary shares in Manton and Sons, Ltd., Me’bourne retailers, and the announcement of a new issue at par of one for five. Mantons have a paid capital of £510,000, including £150,000 in preference shares and £17,000 in employees’ shares. Apparently the employees’ shares are included in the offer by Coles. C i the other hand Wool worths, Ltd., had a weaker market in business at 14s lOd, and the market closed at 14s lOd and 14s lid, respectively.
