Police Halt March In Buenos Aires

(Rec. 11 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, May 25. Police today dispersed Roman Catholic marchers singing the Argentine national anthem after a patriotic ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral. The ceremony had commemorated the start of the revolution against Spain 145 years ago, and it was the first time in Argentine history that the President and other national leaders had not attended.

Neither President Peron nor the Roman Catholic 'Primate, Cardinal Copello. attended the Te Deum service at the cathedral. When it ended a crowd of worshippers formed a procession and marched through the streets singing the national anthem. They dispersed quietly when the police ordered them to do so. Press reports from Cordoba, a provincial capital, tonight said Roman Catholics and police had clashed after evening Mass and that eight persons had been arrested.
