Mr Graham Mclnnes, Counsellor at the Canadian High Commissioner’s office in Wellington, will leave for Ottawa towards the end of June. He will be succeeded by Mr A. J. Hicks, at present First Secretary on the Canadian High Commissioner’s staff at Canberra.—(P.A.) Mr I. S. J. Fawcett, of the staff of the National Airways Corporation in Christchurch, has been appointed branch manager of the office the corporation will open at Wanganui on June 6. Mr Fawcett joined the cor-
poration in May, 1948, at Palmerston North, and four years later he was transferred to the Gisborne branch. In January last year he was transferred to Christchurch as the corporation’s sales representative for the Canterbury area. Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the Christchurch and Westland Licensing Committees: Mr L N. Ri.tchie, S.M., chairman . t of the Hurunui and Selwyn Licensing Committees; and Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M, chairman of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee, according to the Gazette The appointment of Mr I. McR. Collingwood to the Lyttelton committee is also announced.
Sympathy with the relatives of Mr M. E. Lyons was expressed by the Christchurch Post-Primary Schools’ Council last evening, and the chairman (Mr W. J. Cartwright) paid a tribute to the work Mr Lyons had done for education in Christchurch.
The Rev. F. R. H. Wright, the present vicar of Ross and South Westland, has been appointed vicar of Rakaia, to succeed the Rev. Canon S. Parr, who will retire. Mr Wright will be instituted as vicar of Rakaia late in August.
