Mau Mau Gang Leader To Die

(Rec. 10 p.m.) MERU (Kenya), May 23. Seven Mau Mau terrorists who were sentenced at an emergency Assize Court in Meru today—one to deathpleaded that they intended to surrender to the Home Guard when they were captured by the security forces. The self-styled Mdjor M’Buchi was sentenced to death for being in possession of a home-made pistol and one round of ammunition, and “Lieutenant-General” Suruli to hard labour for life. Five other men were sentenced to, 10 years’ hard labour each.

The Judge said he agreed with the Meru assessors that the men had not intended to surrender, but had been forced to by Royal Air Force bombing
