WOMAN FINED FOR BOOKMAKING
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 23. A fine of £lOO was imposed on Jean Isabel Potter, of Ellesmere avenue, Wellington, when she pleaded guilty before Mr J. B. Thomson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker. Detective-Sergeant W. J. Mason said that on Saturday morning a visit was paid to the accused’s home. Potter was taking the results of races over the radio. On a table near the telephone was a pad on which were written several bets amounting to about £4O. The accused admitted taking the bets, and added that she normally took about £lOO. She had said she was an agent for a bookmaker whose name she would not disclose.
