MIRACLE CLAIM IN AUSTRALIA

Acceptance Announced In Rome (N.Z. Press Associatio —Copyright) VATICAN CITY, May 20. The Medical Commission of the Vatican’s Congregation of Rites has investigated and accepted as “miraculous” the healing of Mrs M. C. Bartels, of Melbourne. This is the first miraculous cure said to have taken place in Australia. It is expected to serve for the eventual canonisation of Blessed Pierre Julien Eymard, the French founder of the Congregation of Priests of the Most Holy Sacrament.' The 99-year-old congregation, which numbers 1250 members, has houses in Melbourne and Sydney. Mrs Bartels is said to have been cured following the intercession of Blessed Pierre Eymard. According to documents sent to the Congregation of Rites by the Church authorities in Melbourne, Mrs Bartels had been suffering from angina pectoris and degeneration of the myocardium (the muscular substance of the heart). Doctors said she was incurable.

In 1949 Mrs Bartels prayed to Blessed Pierre Eymard for nine days. At the end of this period she said she felt better.

The reports say that several days later, Mrs Bartels’s doctor found that she had recovered completely from her illness.
