TROTTING Our Kentucky May Win Forbury Park Sprint

Our Kentucky, which has twice won over a distance since being trained by S. A. Edwards, is selected to win the Farewell Handicap, the main sprint race on the final day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting today. Showery weather is forecasts but unless there is heavy" rain the track should provide good going. The distance of today’s race—one mile and three furlongs—should suit Our Kentucky admirably. Provided the pace is on all the z way, he should be the hardest to beat in this small field.

The consistent Frankton pacer, Whispering Smith, looks well placed on the front and he, too, should be seen to advantage over tne sprint journey. A win for him would be popular, as he was unlucky to be checked when looking a likely placegetter in his race a fortnight ago. Brava, the backmarker, should be improved as a result of his race on the first day of the meeting. That was his first start for some months and he did well to share the lead to the straight entrance before dropping out.

Jaunty, Rowan Star and Scottish Brigade are others likely to show up, while on a heavy track, Catkin could surprise. Ailsa Craig, which has had two wins from three starts this season, may extend her fine record in the Tahuna Handicap. The U. Scott mare has plenty of ability, as she showed when she recorded 3min 22 2-ssec for one mile and a half at New Brighton in February. She has not raced since then, but has been working in great style at Addington in recent weeks.

Scotch Pare© has not trotted a really bad race in recent months, and the half-sister to La Mignon looks as though she will graduate to the best classes. , She is inclined to lose a few lengths at the start of her races, but with a smooth beginning, she may be the one to beat Ailsa Craig.

Kowhai’s Prospects Kowhai was a winner at Methven when having her first start for the season and her first start for the Prebbleton trainer, A. M. Purdon. The Quite Sure mare has always shown fair ability and may be placed. See All, Quite Contrary and Suredale should do best of the others. Reality, which went a fair race for third behind Legislate and Battalion at Oamaru last week, may be favourite for the Winter Handicap, which has drawn a useful field of improvers. Reality looks to be on the verge of useful form. Syndicate, a member of D. J. Townley’s Tinwald team, has had one win and one placing from two starts to date. The Casanova gelding is a likely improver and should show to advantage in the next few weeks. Super Brigade failed to begin properly at Oamaru last week, and was never a possibility. If at his best today, he could easily win as he has more ability than most in his class. At his only other start the Light Brigade pacer was an easy winner in the Winton Juvenile Stakes. Toronto Boy, Carntyne, Banjo and Cardena are others expected to add interest to an open race. Martini is selected to win the Pacific Handicap, which has drawn one of the most open fields on the programme. Martini is a fine stayer and he will only need to begin smoothly to take a lot of beating. The Mataura trainer, D. Todd, will produce a useful bracket in Errol’s Pal and Reyleen Hall. Errol’s Pal was an impressive winner at Winton in March but she has not raced since then. If she has trained on she should be hard to beat. Reyleen Hall has been disappointing in recent weeks, but her form in Southland before that was more than useful. • T l kl .JF a P u ran a good race for third in the R. A. McDowell Memorial Handicap at Oamaru last week. It was his first real glimpse of form for some time, and, if he races as well again, he will have to be respected. Marshall Foi, if started here, New Idea, Triple Crown and Dark Echo make most appeal of the remainder. Selections are:—
