COMMUNIST PIONEERS

Sir, —A. Ostler’s letter would hardly convince the most credulous reader. He just “knows,” by some sort of mystic delving into his inner consciousness, that Lenin and Marx did not write what has been attributed to them. Does he presume that, in verification, I should be able to lay before him an actual copy of “Die Neue Rheinische Zeitung,” with the disputed passages underlined in red? Marx incited Communists to methods of terror and bloodshed; and the Bolsheviks in the Russian Revolution followed the formula with all the fury he enjoined. Denials cannot alter the sanguinary record; but they do seriously damage one’s estimation of the Communists’ respect for the truth.—Yours, etc., ™ OBADIAH. May 20, 1955.
