PLUNKET SOCIETY DINNER

FUNCTION TO MARK FOUNDER’S DAY

About 350 members of the Plunket Mothers’ Clubs in Christchurch, Waikuku, Woodend, Rangiora, and Lyttelton honoured the memory of the founder of the Plunket Society (Sir Truby King) by holding a dinner in the Caledonian Hall last evening. It was arranged -by the Christchurch Combined Plunket Mothers’ Clubs, of which Mrs R. L. Jacobsen is the president, and Mrs E. H. Harris the secretary. , The honoured guests, Who were welcomed by Mrs Jacobsen, included Mrs Janet Williams, president of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society; Mrs A. Rbsfe, a senior vice-president, who represented Mrs Cecil Wood, patron of the combined clubs; Mrs J. W. Niven, a member of the executive of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society; Miss L. Scott, secretary;, and Miss B. Helliwell, charge Mrs Williams thanked members of the clubs for their help to the Plunket Society. “You may not realise that you have to branches, subbranches, and the Karitane Hospital the sum of £2000,” she said. “It is a remarkable effort, one that you can be proud of, and we do appreciate it.” “You look., to the Plunket Society for guidance and we look to you for help in spreading the work of the movement,” said Mrs Rose. “The wealth of the country is in the care of •the young, and I appeal to you who will be carrying on the work of the Plunket Society to assist the safety campaign against accidents in the home.” After the dinner, the chairman of each club was presented to Mrs Williams, and received her good wishes for a happy and successful year’s activities. Mrs D. Sullivan, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs Jacobsen with a bouquet in appreciation of her services.

Mrs Williams wore a smart frock of mushroom pink surah silk. Mrs Jacobsen’s ballerina-length frock was of rose-beige nylon lace. A programme- of entertainment was presented by Mrs M. Marshall and Mrs A. Keith (songs), Mrs O. Gee (recitations), and Mrs M. P. Grieve (harmonica solos). Mrs D. Stevens, who was the accompanist, also played piano solos.
