The Oxford Studentship for 1955 at King’s College, Cambridge, has been awarded on the nomination of Sir David Smith, chancellor of the University of New Zealand, to Mr T. H. Beaglehole, 8.A., of the Victoria University College.—London, April 27. Mr C. J. R. Watson, who has just retired as South Island manager for Robert Bryce and Company, Ltdafter 25 years in that position, was the guest of many business associates at a farewell gathering in Christ- , church last evening. Last week m Dunedin, Mr Watson was presented with a chiming clock from his directors in Melbourne, cheques from his own company and from Geigy Australasia, Ltd., a silver tea service from his own staff, and a solid silver salver from the Geigy organisation. Mr J. B. Main, of Palmerston North, has been re-elected president of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants by a majority of 2384 over his only opponent, Mr L. Reid, of Otahuhu. Mr W. T. Johansen has been re-elected unopposed as general secretary.—(P. A.). A tribute to the work of Mr G. H. Blair (North Canterbury) for his work over a period of years as chairman of the chemical weed control committee of Federated Farmers was paid by the president of the Council of the Dominion Agriculture Section of the federation (Mr F. J. Henshaw, of Waimate) yesterday. Mr B J air wil l b e succeeded as chairman of the committee by Mr F. H. R. Gilbertson, of Hawkes Bay. Mr H. C. Greenwood, of Hororata, has been appointed by the Selwyn County Council to fill a vacancy on the Malvern Electric Power Board by the resignation of Mr H T. Grigg. . Mr M. A. Rickard, supervisor of na* b° na l programme organisation for the New Zealand Broadcasting Service, has been awarded an Imperial Relations Trust bursary. He left New Zealand by air last week to spend six months - in England.
