RACING Incredible Scores Dual Success At Blenheim

"The Press” Special Service

BLENHEIM, April 26. The Orari-trained Incredible lived up to his name at Waterlea today, when he won the Apprentices’ and Champion Hack Handicaps, which were consecutive races on the final day of the Marlborough Racing Club’s meeting. Different tactics were adopted with Royal Scrip in the main race, the President’s Handicap, today, and after trailing Sports Edition, Bon Soir, and Fulgent to the furlong, he forged through on the inside to win going away. Tricorne, a stablemate of the Marlborough Cup winner, Pinnacle Ridge, completed the totalisator double when he brilliantly won the Harvey Handicap from a first-day winner, Sleipnir, with the outsiders, Lady Jess and ‘Lights On practically in line next. The winning combination, Royal Scrip—Tricorne, paid £23 4s for £l. The meeting was held in fine weather, before a large attendance. The track was again fast, and times in several events approached course records.

, The stipendiary steward, Mr W. Freeman, reported that in the Trial ’ Stakes, Mohican got on the heels of i Nicosia, losing several lengths, and causing Gilstar to lose ground. * W' Belsham, rider of the winner, > Wishbone, was reprimanded for giv- ’ ing Royal Quest little room in which , to work on the home turn in the . Trial Stakes. ’ Tricorne was swabbed as a routine I measure after the running of the Harvey Handicap. ► The totalisator handled £23,563 10s. compared with £20,233 10s last year. ' The total for the meeting was £52,242, . compared with £45,712 last year. Won Decisively Royal Script was prominent in the run down from the chute in the President’s Handicap, but he was allowed to drop behind Foghorn and Bon Souracing through the straight. These three were followed past the mile post by Sports Edition, with Fulgent next, and relinquish dropping back to last. The pace sharpened when Bon Soir and Sports Edition ranged up alongside Foghorn going down the back. Bon Soir was just clear of Sports Edition on the turn, where Foghorn was tiring and Fulgent, Royal Scrip and Michael Brierly were becoming prominent.

Fulgent joined Bon Soir at the furlong, and under pressure the leaders hung out slightly. Royal Scrip shot through on the inside 50 yards from home, and gained a decisive win over Bon Soin

Fulgent just held third placing from Sports Edition. Michael Brierly was a good fifth, just clear of Foghorn and Relinquish. The consistent Tricorne scored his first success since Christmas when he made a devastating run wide out to beat Sleipnir in the Harvey Handicap. Lady Jess was troublesome at the barrier, but got the best of the start. She led early from Easy Way, Adversary, Johnny Peep and Rio Negro. With five furlongs to run Lady Jess dropped in behind Adversary, Easy Way and Sanford. Tricorne. Incomparable, and Sleipnir were improving positions fast. Sanford began to tire on the turn, leaving Adversary and Incomparable to race to the straight from Sleipner, Rio Negro, and Lady Jess. Johnny Peep became prominent at the furlong, where Sleipnir was just holding Adversary and Incomparable. Lady Jess, Lights On, and Tricorne also joined in with 50 yards to run at a stage where practically the whole field was spread across the track. In a desperate finish, Tricorne won by half a length, with Sleipnir. Lady Jess, Lights On, Adversary, Johnny Peep and Incomparable separated by noses and heads. Rio Negro headed the others. Incredible’s Successes

Enfold attempted to slip the field in the Apprentices’ Handicap, and she was four lengths clear in the back straight. However, Imprudent joined her at the turn, and there was little between them as they turned into line. They were then three lengths clear of Jesse James, Incredible, and Sidena. Enfold came away again at the furlong, but her run ended soon afterwards. Jesse James passed her at the distance, but Incredible finished very fast to gain a half-head decision on

the line. Enfold held third placing from Imprudent, with Sidena and Sassenach heading the others.

Rehandicapped for the next event, the Champion Hack Handicap, Incredible was in little demand, but he showed courage to win after being hard ridden over the last two furlongs. Dividend was badly away, and Dahlia made the early running, but dropped in behind Seascrape entering the back straight. Incredible, Eastern Friend, Dividend, and Special Edition were next at this stage. Dividend and Incredible were on terms in front at the half-mile, with Eastern Friend and Special Edition following them across the top. Incredible was left in charge outside the furlong, and he responded well to hold off Special Edition.

Eastern Friend fought on for third, shading Dahlia. Beau Ray ran on for fifth, ahead of Dividend.

The Riccarton filly, Iroquoi, displayed courage and stamina to win the Mayfield High-weight in a punishing finish with Viewfield and True Gold. Seafront assumed the role of pacemaker, ' and led through the straight the first time from No Longer, Blue Star, Iroquoi, Viewfield, and True Gold. No Longer remained with Seafront until half a mile from home, when Iroquoi and Viewfield closed on the leaders.. True Gold improved smartly to straighten up a length clear of Iroquoi, with Viewfield next. True Gold was challenged just inside the distance, but he did not give ground until right on the line, when Iroquoi put in the telling stride to take a nose decision from Viewfield, with True Gold almost on terms. There was a gap to Sea Front and Blue Star, with Craig just ahead of Full Tilt.
