PLAYING CENTRE FOR BADMINTON
POSSIBLE LOCATION IN WAIMAIRI Ks the idea of an indoor sports stadium has been allowed to drop, the executive of the Canterbury Badminton Association now intends to proceed with plans of its own to provide up to six badminton courts. So far it has raised £llOO for the project. To prosix courts with the necessary facilities one rood of land will be needed. The executive has asked the Waimain County Council whether it will consider making a grant of land for the purpose. The county council on Thursday. had before it a report of its town-planning and reserves committee in which it said that the executive had decided to approach the council because it believed that although business might continue to centre on the Square, the major proportion of the population would be centred further out. The executive therefore felt that it would be to the ultimate benefit of the community to have its playing area in the Waimairi county.
The council will forward a list of reserves in the county to the associa“P 1 *- Should the association find one these suitable for its purposes the council will then refer the choice to the Commissioner of Crown Lands tor his approval.
