POSTAL SERVICE

Sir, —Christchurch is, I should imagine, fairly on a level with most other places for convenience in most things. But there is one at least in which it must surely be hopelessly in the rear. That is tne private posting of letters. The box nearest to where I have the misfortune to live is at least a half mile away; and that (a whole mile) is no joke on a cold, frosty night like the present. We are like the Irishman, progressing backwards, and that at a very rapid pace.—Yours, etc., GEORGE INGRAM. April 22, 1955.
