, FRIDAY (Before Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M.) REMANDED Check Tuhuru Tainui, aged 33, a welder (Mr W. F. Brown), was remanded to April 29 on a charge that on April 21 he was found without lawful excuse but in circumstances that did not disclose the commission of or the intention to commit any other offence, on the enclosed premises of 2 St. Asaph street. Bail in his own recognisance of £2O, with a surety of a like amount, was allowed, conditional upon his reporting daily to the police. TRAFFIC BREACHES In cases brought by the police, offenders against the traffic regulations were dealt with as follows: No warrant of fitness: Norman Allan James Bishop, 10s; Robert Maldon Collins, 10s; Thomas Alfred Hammond, 10s; Walter Henry Lilley, £1; Murray Edmond Vague, 10s; Edgar Scott Taylor, 10s. Driving without due care and attention: Lawrence Andrew Chambers, £3; Edward Robert Smith, £3; Noel David Thompson, £2; Ronald Watson Kerr, £2. Failed to give way to the right: Holland Flint, £2; William Nicholas Maffey, £4; Donald Robert Sapsford, £3; Robert William Wilson, £2; Frank Griffith Booth Simpson. £2. No driver’s licence: Peter Laurence Harkness, £l. Negligently driving motor vehicle: Lionel Graham, £4. Insecure load on truck: Dudley Campbell McArthur, £2. Cycling at night without a light: Horatio Lee McAlister, £l. CHARGE DISMISSED A charge against Terence William O’Brien of driving without due care and attention was dismissed. Mr B. McClelland appeared for O’Brien. DANGEROUS DRIVING Harry Graham Roger Gunthorp pleaded guilty to a charge of driving m a dangerous manner at Hororata on December 11. He was fined £4. The Magistrate said he did not consider the matter a bad offence and would not suspend the driving licence. Mr J A. Wickes appeared for Gunthorp. THURSDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) LICENSING BREACHES • Herbert Kendall, licensee of the Lancaster Park Hotel, was convicted and fined £lO on a charge of opening his premises for the sale of liquor after hours on March 9. Kendall, who pleaded not guilty, was represented by Mr W. F. Brown. Charges against David Mcßae, Garry Mason, and Gerard O’Connell of bfeing on the licensed premises of the New Zealander Hotel after hours, were dismissed. Edward O’Connor wps fined £1 on a similar charge, as was Thomas Henry Cunnard. Stewart Lamont and Nova Carson were each fined £1 for being on the licensed premises of the Lancaster Park Hotel after hours.
