Brigadier J. T. Burrows, commander of the Southern Military District, will be in Blenheim on April 28 to present shooting trophies to Marlborough College cadets. In 1953 the college Air Training Corps unit won the King George V trophy for the best New Zealand unit in the Imperial Challenge Shield competition. The unit was placed sixth in the British Commonwealth. Last year college cadets won the Islington Challenge Cup for the fourth time in succession. The Annual meeting of the Christchurch Police Social Club elected the superintendent, Mr D. Sugrue, patron. Constable G. J. Robinson was elected chairman; Constable J. C. Ching secretary, and Constable W. Bracks treasurer. Cr. F. Ridge, for seven and a half years a member of the Paparua County Council as representative of the Broadfield riding, resigned last evening. He has sold his property and will move to the Methven district. Mr L. B. Scott, a member of the West Spreydon School Committee for the last 15 years, was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his services by the chairman of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association (Mr R. K. Milne) at a meeting of the association last evening. Mr Scott is not seeking re-election to the committee this year. Mr J. M. Grant, a surveyor in the i Lands and Survey Department. : Christchurch, for the last eight years. ; has been promoted to chief surveyor the Department to Blenheim.
