TRIBUTE TO N.Z. AIRMEN
WORK IN MIDDLE EAST MESSAGE! FROM LEADER OF R.A.F. (New Zealand'Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. On the eye of the departure of the New Zealand squadron from Cyprus for Malaya, the Chief of the Air Staff, Royal Air Force (Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir William Dickson, G.C.8., K.8.E., D. 5.0., A.F.C.) has sent the following message to the Chief of the New Zealand Air Staff (Air Vice-Mar-shal W. H. Merton, C. 8., 0.8. E., R.A.F.):— “Now that No. 14 Squadron is leaving the Middle East. Air Force, I should like, on behalf of the Royal Air Force, to express my thanks for the outstanding part this squadron has played in the activities of the command since it arrived in November, 1952. “No 14 Squadron has won a great reputation for skill, keenness, and cooperation, and that is what is to be expected of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. It has worthily upheld the high traditions of your service.
“The Middle East Air Force will be very sorry to lose them, but I know there is a warm welcome awaiting the squadron from the Far East Air Force in Malaya. They will find a great job to be done there.
“We are very glad indeed that No. 14 Squadron will continue to serve alongside the squadrons of the Royal Air Force.”
