MAIDEN SPEECH BY MR SEATH

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, April 13. A maiden speaker in the Address-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives tonight who dealt effectively with a number of topics of wide interest was Mr D. C. Seath (Government, Waitomo), a public accountant and Mayor of Taumarunui.

Advocating that licensing elections should be held on the same day as local body elections, Mr Seath said that the closing of hotels on licensing poll days was outmoded. He urged that grants should be made to sporting and cultural clubs from the proceeds of the national art union. Steam generation of electric power for the North Island on a large scale was advocated by Mr Seath, who has been secretary of the King Country Power Board for some years.
