Albert Memorial Restored
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON. April 11. After 12 months' repairing and cleaning at a cost of £7OOO Queen Victoria’s memorial to her husband—the Albert Memorial—now shines out from Kensington Gardens in gleaming marble and bronze. It is the first time the memorial has been restored. During the war a bomb damaged the bronze cross and orb and some of the statuary at the base. The 15ft high cross and orb and the lifesized angel at the top of the monument have been recast.
The figure of Albert, four times larger than life, has been cleaned and repaired. There was a hole in the left index finger, but the entire figure is so large that the hole was 6in across.
