HOTEL HOURS

Six O’Clock Closing “No Good”

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 8. “The 6 o’clock rush in New Zealand hotels is no good for a man,” said Mr Anthony J. Kentish, president of the Wine Trade Club, England, in an interview in Wellington on Thursday. Mr Kentish, who has been in the wine trade for 23 years, expressed the opinion that alcohol was of no benefit if “stuffed” down the throat. He said the recent extension of drinking hours in Sydney was working well, and would continue to do so if it was not carried to extremes.

Mr Kentish said he was quite impressed by the service in New Zealand hotels, but felt that more consideration should be given to the overseas visitor in the way of dining hours.

“At present you are rushed in and out of the diningroom as quickly as possible, so that the staff may get away early,” he added.
