Mrs I. L. M. Coop (Kaituna) immediate Dominion past-president of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, will leave cm Friday for the North Island, where -she will visit branches of the division at Hamilton, Plako, Franklin, and Auckland, and in the northern King Country. About eight new branches have, recently been formed in thio district and Mrs Coop will visit some of them. Mr* L. J. Hensley (Riccarton) will leave Wellington by the Rangitane on Thursday for a visit to England and Europe. In London she will join her daughter, Miss Alison Hensley, who has been in England for some time. Mrs Hensley’plans to return in September. Mrs J. W. Martin, of Dunedin, Dominion president of the Country Women’s Institutes of New Zealand, was the guest of her sister, Mrs J. M. Lemon, Middle road, Ashburton, for the twentieth annual council meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes at Ashburton recently. Miss Hazel Halliday (Riccarton) has left for Sydney, where she will . join the Orontes for a trip to Britain.

Miss R. A. White, secretary of the Tauranga branch of the Red Cross Society, is spending a holiday in Christchurch. The Rev. D. M. Riddle and Mrs Riddle, Presbyterian missionaries in the Punjab, will visit Christchurch Md surrounding districts from April IP to May 22. and will lecture on their work in India. Mr Riddle, who is a son of the Very Rev. T. E. Riddle, of Auckland, took up mission work in India in 1949. and has been working Booty 250,000 persons in 600 villages eompriiing the Khazar district. The Papanui Garden Club held its April meeting at the home of Mrs L. Corner, 987 Papanui road. Mrs H. W. Gourlay presided over a large attendance, and thanked Mrs Comer for her hospitality and the afternoon tea hostesses for their work. Mr Jones fave a talk on cuttings and was thanked by Mrs E. Watkins. The competitions resulted as follows: fine arrangement of chrysanthemums, class A. Mrs J. Moffitt 1, Mrs McConnell 2; mw B: Mrs Redder 1, Mrs P. Russell 3; el*M C, Mrs V. G. Cameron 1, Mrs IL Burns 2. Special flower, class A, Mr* W. Toomey 1; class B, Mrs C. Stringer 1. Mrs R. W. Borland presided at a meeting of the Home Economics Association's needlecraft circle recently. Appreciative reference was made to tbe entertainment given by the Hoon Hay branch of the Women’s Division . of Federated Farmers, and a vote of thanks was seconded. Members provided a display of articles made from sugar bags. Congratulations were offered to Mr and Mrs G. J. H. Easton ee the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary. A donation of £5 5s was voted to Heritage. The hostesses were Mesdames Tibbs, Williams. Brigg, and Rogers.

The National Garden Circle under the presidency of Mrs W. Milne Shand enjoyed a travel talk by Mrs Maurice Bunt at its April meeting. Prize-win. pars were: Mrs H. Kennedy, Mrs Parry, Mrs Percy Wright, Mrs T. J. Robertson and Mrs John Hannan. Mrs Allan Nicholls. Church lane, lent her home for the April meeting of the Wairarapa Garden Club. The presi. dent (Mrs Erie Millton) presided and welcomed Mr J. R. Templin, the guest Speaker, who also judged the monthly competitions. Mr Templin discussed the planning of herbaceous borders *°d gave examples of varieties that provide a long display of colour. Competition results ware as follows: posy, N - Ixs Cren 1. Mrs J.
