ROAD SAFETY

Sir, —I suggest that when a car is being registered each year the current warrant of fitness should have to be produced; In that way it would be compulsory for at least a yearly warrant of fitness to be obtained. I consider trailers are a menace on the roads, as one does not expect to find a projection beyond a car. Consequently, at intersections they become dangerous; and when the trailer has timber or such projecting still further, it is definitely dangerous and unfair to motorists. Another road hazard is the indiscriminate opening of car doors iarthe face of oncoming traffic. That, and drawing out from the kerb without signalling are two dangerous offences. —Yours, etc., PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. April 6, 1955.
