PEACE ON EARTH
Sir,—The Annandale English Dictionary gives this interpretation of Pea? 6 — a stat e of quiet or tranquillity, calm, quietness, repose: especially freedom from war* a cessation of hostilities, absence of strife, tranquility of mind, quiet of conscience, harmony, concord, public tranquility. Much also of interest f ° u °ws the heading “at peace.” Do ail those envisaging the state of peace on earth, absence of war, and cessation of hostilities among nations contribute toward a local state of quiet or tranquillity in the home or neighbourhood? Concord, or public tranquillity, would seem to suggest harmonious functioning between persons bodies for the promotion °r totel wellbeing. Rubberised roads, elimination of offensive irritant noise, factory-created, among homes, might be considered as comparative restorative measures necessary if lost peace is to return somewhat to a din-ridden nerve-racked harassed world.—Yours, Conscience, charity and April A 1958.
