ROWING
SCHOOL RACES AT KERR’S REACH
CHRIST’S COLLEGE WINS BOTH EVENTS
Displaying splendid combination and rhythm and with greater experience than other crews engaged, Christ’s College won the annual secondary schools rowing race held at Kerr's Reach yesterday afternoon. Before last year the race had been confined to crews from Christ’s College and Boys* High School. Last year St.’Andrew’s College entered a crew, and yesterday Xavier College was represented for the first time.
Christ's College did not look like being beaten in either event yesterday. Going to the front early in each race, the crews won with something in hand. St. Andrew’s College made a fine race in the senior division until the last quarter-mile, when Christ's College established unquestioned superiority. St. Andrew's College finished too well for Boys* High School to take second place in the second crews race, with the inexperienced Xavier College crew beaten off. The Increased Interest 'being taken In this event suggests that it will be one of the main features in Canterbury rowing in a few years. For the standard of rowing attained credit is due to the coaches, Mr S. G. Cock (Christ's College), Mr C. Carter (Boys’ High School), Messrs G. Toner and A. F. Sheppard (St. Andrew’s College), and Mr R. G. Hampton (Xavier College). Results:—
