SALVAGED CARS AUCTIONED

VEHICLES DAMAGED IN SHIP FIRE (New Zealand press Association) WELLINGTON, April 4. New English-assembled cars salvaged from the fire in the Hororata ° n March 5 sold readily at auction in Wellington today. The lure of purchasing new cars for less than list prices, or watching those who did, attracted a crowd of several thousands to the Show Grounds, John street, where the sale was held.

Hopeful buyers who expected the ears to go for a quarter or less of their value, however, started to drift off as soon as the first car, a mediumsized saloon, was sold for £760, a tittle more than £lOO below list price. Other brands brought from £250 and £350 less than their new prices. Dealers were among the buyers. Several vehicles were towed away soon after they were sold. Twenty-six cars and a number of tractors were sold.
