OHINEMURI CLUB

MERRY LEGS WINS PAEROA CUP (New Zealand Press Association) PAEROA, March 20. The Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s autumn meeting was concluded in fine weather on Saturday. The track was easy, and there was a good attendance. The totalisator handled on-course £58,124, against £75,214 last year. The winning double, Merry Legs-Joy Step, paid £lOB 12s for £l. On-course investments on the double were £7084. C. N. Mcßae, the rider of Odonais in the Mackaytown Handicap, was fined £2 for failing to do a preliminary. K. Lawrence, the rider of Fox Fun, explained that he did not make a move before he reached the four furlongs, because he had ridden the horse according to instructions given by the trainer, H. Long. He was advised by the chairman of the judicial committee, to show more vigour in riding, and better judgment in future. Long was informed that indefinite instructions should never be given a rider, particularly one who was inexperienced, and, in future, he should see that explicit instructions were given to ensure that any horse trained by him was ridden on its merits.
