PROGRAMME FOR TODAY

“The Press” Special Service OAMARU, March 20. Assembly, which finished third in the Parkside Hack Handicap on the first day of the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meeting yesterday, will start in the Elderslie Handicap, the second leg of the double, tomorrow, when the club will end its autumn meting. Assembly’s part-trainer, D. Preece, made this decision because, in his alternative engagement, the Farewell Handicap, the Royal Commission gelding has drawn very wide. Wait-a-Bit will start in the Gardiner Memorial Handicap, the first leg Of the double (with W. D. Skelton as his jockey), in preference to the high-weight event. No decision has yet been made for Tiles, but J. W. McDonald will ride him if he starts in the Pukeuri High-weight instead of the Elderslie Handicap. Patris. an acceptor in the Waitaki Hack Handicap, has been troubled by a kidney ailment, and whether he will run will be decided on the morning of the races. If he starts, he will be ridden by B. McDonald. G. W. Mein will ride Balveine in the Gardiner Memorial Handicap, but, unless there is an easing in the track, he may not race. The weather has been fine and warm at Oamaru today, and, unless there , is* a change in the weather, the track Will be fast. The course proper carries a good sole. of grass, and shows little evidence of Saturday’s racing. Several fresh horses will add interest to the meeting. The double will be on the Gardiner -Memorial Handicap and the Elderslie Handicap. Riding engagements include:— W. F. Ellis: Patina. Red Biretta. Brooke, Lumphanan, The Boas, Bonny Fleet. B.
