ROYAL COMMISSION ON BANKING
MR W. B. OWEN APPROVES OF MEMBERS AND AGENDA
“In the interests of New Zealand and particularly its people it is sincerely hoped that the Royal Commission on Banking as announced by the Minister of Finance (Mr J. T. Watts) will be instrumental in pointing the way to a better understanding of our monetary and economic systems,” said the leader of the New Zealand Social Credit Political League (Mr W. B. Owen), in a statement yesterday. “The personnel, by repute, would seem to be admirably suitable and capable of bringing down a useful, constructive, and unbiassed report. The order of reference is very different from the originally announced provisional one, and if interpreted liberally should give ample scope to cover all related subjects. “I feel that Social Credit’s representations to the Government since the first announcement have borne fruit, and for this I express my appreciation. ‘‘The Social Credit Political League will be most happy to give evidence and to assist the commission in any way within its power, and it is hoped that the report will be acted upon and not just pigeonholed, as has always been the fate of such reports in the past,” said Mr Owen.
