SCHOOL MATCH DRAWN

COLLEGE BOWLER’S HATTRICK

J. D. HUTCHISON TAKES SIX FOR 49

A hat-trick at the end of the High School innings added interest to a keen struggle for the first innings lead yesterday, u’hen the school’s annual match with Christ’s College was concluded at the college ground. With seven wickets down for 210, High School appeared well set to pass the Christ’s College total of 220, but when the score was 214 M. A. Sandelin was caught off the bowling of J. D. Hutchison. The incoming batsman, G. C. Macaulay, was stumped, and the last man. R. H. Prouting was caught off the next ball. Christ's College began the second innings w’ith. a lead of 6 runs, and batted for the remaining two and a half hours, losing seven wickets and making 142 runs against the 10 bowlers.

Hutchison, who has played in the Christ’s College first eleven for several years, is a slow left-arm bowler. On yesterday’s heavy pitch he was turning the

ball considerably from the leg. although his speed off the pitch was not sufficient to worry the early batsmen. He bowled steadily during the day, and earned his fine figures of six for 49. Three solid partnerships took High School’s score from 47 to’ 214 and saved the team from collapse yesterday. When play resumed High School had lost three for 45 in reply to Christ’s College s first innings score of 220. and with the fall of another wicket in the first over, a collapse appeared more than possible. F. Rapley and D. E. Gregg then carried the score from 47 to 114 before Gregg’s wicket fell, and by this time the bowling was losing its edge. Rapley, a neat lefthanded batsman, used his feet well to drive the over-pitched ball. He was not out with 81. Scores were as - follows: CHRIST S COLLEGE First innings .. .. . • 220 Second Innings B.
