WOOL TEXTILE TRADE
Optimistic Report On Outlook (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 24. The outlook for the wool textile industry this year was good, in spite of the decrease in wool consumption last year, the National Association of Wool Manufacturers, and the Wool Bureau said yesterday. They based their optimism on the increase in wool business which developed in December and had continued into 1955. In a statement issued after the Federal Department of Agriculture had reported that use of wool by both woollen and worsted mills in 1954 was about 25 per cent, below that of 1953, the national association of wool manufacturers reported that average weekly sales of wool cloth in the final quarter of 1954 showed a marked improvement over the corresponding period of 1953. British Army Strength.—The total strength of the Army at the end of 1954 was 440,784, compared with 440.997 in the previous year. The gross intake of national servicemen in 1955-56 is planned at 130.500 compared with 132,000 in the current year. —London, February 23.
