Men’s Medley Record Broken TITLE-HOLDERS BEATEN

J. O. Blackwood (Walk...? Blackwood was third. ■usaw. Miss W. Griffin (Auckland) won second title of the meeting when took the 440 yards women's freesw. again beating Miss Marion Roe (W.i kato). She swam the first 100yd--65.55ec, and held a commanding laS for most of the rest of the race ij; Empire Games team mate. Miss'»» closing the gap considerably at £ finish. J. Jarvis (Otago) also won his second title in the men’s 440yds. He anm beat J. Hamilton (Wellington), title-holder, who was second nettiv three lengths behind. Miss R. Currie (Otago) touched oa, a split second before the junior 220 yd« champion. Miss L. Orbell (Southland) in the final of the women’s Myds breaststroke championship. At m stage were these two separated k, more than a yard, and for a mount it seemed that Miss Orbell might win. Miss Currie’s time was Msec outside her record of 3min 7.4 sec. The Empire Games 220yds men', breaststroke champion. J. Dorns (Waikato) comfortably won the furlong event in 2min 58.6 see. ■ An extremely well-balanced team enabled Waikato to retain the 440yd s flying squadron relay in 3min 52he c after staving off a challenge from Auckland over the last length.
