TEA PRICES

Sir, —In reply to “Puzzled” in last Thursday’s issue, I also think the Government’s decision to control tea prices was hasty and ill-advised. As already pointed out packet tea advanced by only Is lOd per lb during last year. On the basis of New Zealand’s annual capita consumption being 7£lb this is equivalent to less than |a a day, or equal to one beer and five cigarettes monthly for the average working man—indeed a small price to pay to keep mum and the kids happy and also avoid further nonsensical bureaucracy in our affairs. —Yours, AMAZED.
