B.E.A. To Re-employ Shop Steward
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, February 14, British European Airways agreed last night to re-employ a shop steward at the B.E.A. works at London Airport, Jack Peters, over whose dismissal in December, London Airport engineers were threatening to strike. Lord Douglas, the B.E.A. chairman, said that Peters would be re-employed “as a specific act of grace.” The condition of re-employment is that he work at Gatwick Airport, Surrey, near London. x World Jewish Population.—The American Committee reported today Jewish population totalled 11,867,000. In its annual year committee said that the United States had the largest Jewish population of any country—s,2oo,ooo. “The general development of American free institutions has created an impregnable bastion within which Jewish political and social rights are secure,” the committee said.—New York, February 13.
