SAFE FORCED OPEN
£250 IN MONEY STOLEN The staff of Victoria Furnishers, Ltd., at .17 Victoria street, found yesterday morning that the premises had been entered during the week-end, the front of the safe cut open, and that £250 in notes and silver and cheques worth £123 had been stolen. Attempt to Force Strongroom An attempt was made during the week-end to blow open the door of the strongroom at Drages Co., Ltd., home furnishers, at the corner of Tuam and Manchester streets, but the door jammed tight. Apparently explosive was packed in the keyhole and the detonator was fired from an electric light plug. Pieces of steel were blown into the ceiling. Cushions were. set alight but the thieves doused them in water in a sink in the staffroom. Rolls of furnishings and about 30 cushions had been packed round the strongroom door to deaden the explosion. About £lOO worth of materials was damaged. The staff found the offices in a bad mess when they arrived at work yesterday morning. Money Taken and Returned After £33 had been found missing from the till in a New Brighton dry cleaning shop, it was returned .yesterday while the proprietor was reporting the loss to the police. The shop was apparently broken into during the week-end and the theft was discovered yesterday morning. When the proprietor returned to the shop he found the money in an envelope with a note reading: “Regret this occurrence. Hope the temporary disappearance of your money did not cause you dny inconvenience.”
