TROTTING Belle Renarde May Win At Forbury Park Today

Belle Renarde, which has had one win and five placings from seven starts this season, may gain a well-earned win in the £5OO February Handicap on the second day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s summer meeting today. The Dillon Hall mare was far from disgraced when she was beaten by the promising Starbeam in her race on the first day of the meeting. With Starbeam out of the race and also the third and fourth horses, Mighty King and Young Erin, Belle Renarde is entitled to be a firm favourite. A fresh horse in Dione may be the hardest for her to beat. Dione has had a win and a second placing in his three most recent appearances. He is a member of P. P. Gallagher’s team, which showed to advantage on the first day of the meeting. Gay Cobra was an impressive winner at Washdyke on January 15 and the son of Kingcobra may again be prominent. He has always shown plenty of ability and will have bright prospects today. Michael Hall created a good impression in his race last week without ever appearing a likely place-getter. He should eventually develop worthwhile form and, if kept closer to the leaders in the middle stages of the race than he was last week, he may upset calculations. Victory Nelson made up ground for eighth last week and the Palmerstonowned and trained pacer may do better today. The others would have to show improvement on their recent efforts to have much chance, and Gold Direct and Amazon may be the best of them. Shirley Dillon was trotting like a winner when she was checked, losing all chance, with half a mile to run in her race last week. She will be strongly supported to make amends in the Waverley Handicap today and only bad luck will prevent her taking a prominent part in the finish. The half-sister to Casameter Idoks as though she will be more than useful. Chance for Recovery The Southland trotter, Recovery, which was badly checked when Sure Phoebe broke with half a mile to run in his race last Saturday, will have bright prospects of reaching a place. The Indianapolis gelding looked certain to be placed last week before he was checked and with a reasonable run today he is certain to race well. Jimmy Pride has at times shown a fair turn of speed, but little stamina. His effort last week was a useful one and it was only in the last few strides that he was caught by Sure Phoebe. If allowed to make his own rules out in front, he will take catching and should again be placed. Saturn has a remarkable record for consistency and he may race well. Sure Phoebe and Branford should do best of the others. Fair Lead, which is usually a most reliable pacer, is selected to win the Stewards’ Handicap, a race restricted to probationary drivers. The Gold Chief mare was far from disgraced when beaten into fourth place m her race last week and it will be surprising if she fails Ip show up. Trueco paced two fine races last week and with a little luck he would have won one of them. The Light Brigade three-year-old has at times been a little ’wayward in his races, and if his young driver can get the best from him, he should be the hardest to beat. All In met trouble in his race last week or he would probably have returned a dividend. The Oamarutrained pacer looks to be more than useful and he will have a good chance today. Kierlock showed speed last week and even though he will concede starts of up to 36 yards, he cannot be left out of calculaions. Blazing Sun, Nipalong and Grey Towers are expected to do best of the others. Secure, La Fey and Invicta are a likely trio for the Irwin Handicap, the first leg of the double, in which Young Sam, Graticulate and Dalise may do best of the remainder. Moko Boy, Spring Walk and New Idea are expected to fight out the finish of the second leg of the double, the St. Clair Handicap, in which Bedivus and Isla Devan may also show to advantage. RIBANDS WITHDRAWN FROM TRIAL

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 4. Ribands was withdrawn today from the Inter-Dominion Trial at the Thames Trotting Club’s summer meeting. His trainer, C. J. Muddle, said he was not quite satisfied with Ribands’s condition. He felt that it would not be beneficial to his chances in the Inter-Dominion Championship if the horse raced at Thames.
