PENTATHLON FOR WOMEN
INAUGURAL CONTEST IN CANTERBURY
MISS V. SLOPER LEADING AFTER THREE EVENTS
When the first session of the Canterbury pentathlon title was held at Rugby Park last evening, Miss V. Sloper (Technical) gained 1433 points to give her a 115-point lead over thfe next competitor. Miss M. Chamberlain (Technical). This is the first time the pentathlon has been held as a Canterbury title event. It is a series of five events selected as an all-round test of athletic ability for women, and is equivalent to the decathlon for men. Events held last night were the shot put, high jump, and 200 metres. The concluding two events—the 80 metres hurdles and long jump—will be held in conjunction with the inter-club meeting at Rugby Park this afternoon.
