HOPE ABANDONED FOR THREE CLIMBERS IN SOUTHER ALPS.—-The western face of Mount Cook viewed across the Hooker valley from Copland Pass. The three missing climbers, for whom hope has been abandoned, were in this area and are thought to have been attempting to climb the low peak of Mount Cook (the highest point shown in this photograph). Marked with a cross is the Empress Hut, where the climbers were last seen.
