YOUNG MEN SENT TO PRISON
OBSTRUCTION OF , CONSTABLE (Ntw Zealand Pres. Association) AUCKLAND, January 24. Prison terms were imposed on four young men, described by the prosecutor, as the “milk-bar cowboy type." by Mr M. C. Astley, S.M., in the Auckland Magistrate's Court today. ' Bobert William Hoggart, .aged IS, a labourer, on a charge of using obscene language in a public place, and of assaulting a constable In the execution of his duty, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. in the execution of his duty, was, aged*, a grocer, and . Maynard Cotseboom, aged 19, a labourer, who admitted similar charges of obstruction, were given sentences of two weeks ifoprisomnent. Sub-Inspector M. E. Parker said that at 11.35 p.m. yesterday Hoggart had left a car and asked Constable J. Sheehan for a light. When the constable said he did not have one Hoggart replied cheekily. The constable then warned him and Hoggart threatened to “knock him,down with one hand.” He used an obscene term. the constable went to arrest hint. Hoggart resisted and the three other accused, who had been sitting in the car, pulled, the constable awayAll fell to the ground.
