RIVER MERSEY ACCIDENT
THREE SHIPS MEET IN FOG
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON. January 23. Three ships were involved in an accident in the river Mersey, near Liverpool, last night during the fog. The 13,362-ton Cunard liner Parthia. taking passengers into Liverpool from New York, had been held up by thick fog at the Mersey bar for several hours, before the accident happened. She suffered damage to her bows and a long graze along one side, but there was no panic and nobody was injured. The vessel Flamenco, 8491 tons, was badly damaged above the waterline. The bulwarks were stove in arid her bridge and promenade deck damaged. She was on her way to South America, carrying a few passengers and cargo The third vessel involved, the British cargo ship, City of Worcester, 5576 tons —also outward bound from the Mersey —was not badly damaged.
