CENTRAL DISTRICTS 90 FOR FOUR (New Zealana Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, January 23. Auckland collapsed in its first innings on the second day of its Plunket Shield match against Central Districts at Palmerston North yesterday. At stumps, Central Districts was in a safe position, but was scoring too slowly in its second innings to give it much chance of an outright win. Replying to Central Districts’ first innings score of 285, Auckland made 70 for one wicket, and then collapsed, and was all out tor 133. Central Districts began its second innings in a persistent drizzle which twice interrupted play. It had lost four wickets for 90 at stumps. Tarrant and Beard, who did most of the Central Districts bowling, were supported by exceptionally good fielding, and

some • magnificent catches were taken. Taylor, who resumed his innings after having retired injured on Friday, and Morris were batting confidently for Auckland when the 70 was reached. Morris tried to hit out at Jones, and was well caught by Tarrant at mid-on. - that, the Auckland wickets fell quickly. Taylor was caught by Jones in attempting a drive off Beard. Worrall and Hambrook were dismissed in a single over from Tarrant.

Central Districts opened its second innings at 2.15 p.m. Turner, after surviving a sharp chance off Clarke to Hambrook at second slip, hit some good shots. He as ,?. when he was caught in the slips by Vluiviti off Hambrook, after making 18 runs in 43 minutes.

Meuli batted for 118 minutes for his 27. He was neatly stumped by Petrie when he went to meet a short ball from Lissette and missed it. Guy failed to score. Harford hit some characteristically crisp strokes, but made only seven runs before being caught. Bowden brightened a dull patch of batting with some well-driven fours.
