ASSAULT CHARGE

ELDERLY MAN REMANDED TILL JANUARY 28 (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 21. John Cecil Stirling, aged 64, a retired railway guard, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today with assaulting John Joseph Duffy, aged 67, last evening. Duffy and Stirling were occupants of rooms- in the same house at Parnell Duffy died in the passageway of the house last evening. Asking the Magistrate (Mr L. G. H.

Sinclair, S.M.) for a remand, Detective-Sergeant F. A. Gordon said:—“The accused was arrested after an alleged assault at the house when Duffy met his death.
