ASSAULT CHARGE
ELDERLY MAN REMANDED TILL JANUARY 28 (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 21. John Cecil Stirling, aged 64, a retired railway guard, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today with assaulting John Joseph Duffy, aged 67, last evening. Duffy and Stirling were occupants of rooms- in the same house at Parnell Duffy died in the passageway of the house last evening. Asking the Magistrate (Mr L. G. H.
Sinclair, S.M.) for a remand, Detective-Sergeant F. A. Gordon said:—“The accused was arrested after an alleged assault at the house when Duffy met his death. The accused is in poor health, and suffers from nervous debility, and there are some grounds for remanding him in custody.” . Mr W. W. King, for the accused, consented to a remand in custody till January 28,
