FRENCH PLAN ON AIRCRAFT
Co-operation Urged With Germany
(Special Correspondent N.Z.PA.) (Rec. 8 p.m.l LONDON, January 12. A. revolutionary plan for France and Germany to co-operate in building aircraft has been suggested by leaders of the French aircraft, industry and has the backing of 'the French Government, says the Bonn correspondent of the “News Chronicle.”
It will probably be on the agenda for Friday’s meeting at Baden Baden between the Prime Minister (Mr Mendes-France> and the West German Chancellor (Dr. Adenauer), who will primarily discuss treaties on German arms and the French plan for a European arms pool. “The suggestion came from Mr Jules Jarry, President of the French Aviation Engineers* Association,” said the correspondent. “He said that co-operation would not only avoid a double investment but would build up a European aviation •industry which could compete with Britain and the United States. “German capital could help French firms. The French could train German engineers, and joint operations in new plants in North Africa would have a big industrial future. “The German aviation industry, lacking funds, designers, and engineers, is interested.
“The West German Government has not yet offered its support. “British observers see the proposal as a move to ensure that United States offshore' dollar purchases will still be made in France—in spite of French lack of enthusiasm for German rearmament—because of the link with German industry.”
