AUNT OF GOVERNORGENERAL
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. Miss A. Stephen, an aunt of the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie), arrived at Auckland in the Oreades today from Kenya. With her was Mrs Alan Tompson, who owns Kenya estates. Mrs Tompson keeps two loaded shotguns in her bedroom in case the Mau Mau call When she and her friends sit down to a game of bridge at home, most of the players carry guns. In spite of the fact that they keep a private arsenal, the two ladies have nothing against Kenya’s natives. “They ar « r^ lly - quite nice ’” M ’s s Stephen said, that is, providing they have not taken those ghastly Mau Mau oaths.”
