ELECTRIC POWER FROM ATOM

Use For Generating Studied

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) w ... . WASHINGTON, December 19. within 20 years about twice as much electric power would be furnished by the atom as was now generated by waterpower in the United States, said a private study prepared for the use of investor groups. The growth would represent possibly a 6,000,000,000 dollars private investment in nuclear-powered electric units, it was estimated, of which more than one-sixth would go into reactors alono. The survey was made by Mr H. Dewayne Kreager. an'industry consultant. Termed an “economic timetable,” it predicted that from 1970 to the end of the century, 80 per cent, of all new generating capacity installed in the United States would be atom-powered. Other types of generating capacity would grow rapidly also, it was foreseen, but by the turn of the century about 45 per cent, of the greatly expanded power output would be fuelled by the atom.
