PLUNKET ROOMS AT KAIAPOI

MEMBERS INSPECT AMENITIES

The Plunket rooms in the new war memorial building at Kaiapoi were open yesterday for inspection by members of the society and their friends. The rooms have been in use for several weeks, but yesterday was the first opportunity for an examination of the fine facilities provided. The president of the Kaiapoi branch of the Plunket Society (Mrs A. J. Wyle), in welcoming the visitors, said the society regarded it as an honour that it should occupy the rooms in that building. It was a war memorial, and she hoped it would always be regarded as such. Some of the men who had given their lives in the Second World War had been under the society’s care as babies, Mrs Wylie referred to the work of the Kaiapoi Mothers’ Club in assisting the project, and to the other organisations and firms which had helped, and recalled that the society itself had made a considerable contribution to the funds.

Afternoon tea was later provided in the Returned Services’ Association hall, where items were given by Mrs A. R. Hall (song) and Maureen Hopkins (skipping dance).
