N.Z.’S CREDIT IN LONDON
Sir,—Mr Lefeaux, former Governor of the Reserve Bank, states that “the Dominion continues to enjoy first rate credit in London, New Zealand loans are very popular.” (‘‘The Press,” December 13.) I can quite understand this. English financiers, by creating money for a New Zealand loan, thrive on remuneration of interest from New Zealand taxpayers. They neither work nor spin for the interest money, but New kealanders do. Another point is that these financiers could get a good grip of New Zealand, and with enough power could dictate our way of life. Most New Zealanders know this; so why do they allow and tolerate overseas loans with the interest burdens? —Yours, etc., TIME TO ACT. December 13, 1954.
