PARROT ILLEGALLY IMPORTED

FINE OF £4O IMPOSED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. James Hutchison appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today before Mr Thompson, S.M., on a charge of bringing a parrot into the country without the consent of the Minister of Agriculture. The charge was laid under the Stock Amendment Act.

The Customs Department was represented by Mr W. R. Birks. In concealing the parrot in a carton beneath some clothes, he had been attempting to evade customs duty, said Hutchison. He did not know of the regulations prohibiting the import of the birds.

It was a serious matter, said t’.e Magistrate, imposing a fine of £4O.
