N.Z. WOMAN DIES IN SYDNEY

Former Postmistress At Mohaka 103RD BIRTHDAY LAST SEPTEMBER (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8.30 pjn.) SYDNEY, Dec. 12. A woman who for many years was postmistress at the settlement of Mohaka, in Hawke’s Bay, died in Sydney yesterday, aged 103. She was Miss Ellen Mary Grierson, who was born in London and migrated to New Zealand in 1901. When she retired as postmistress at Mohaka, her niece took over. In 1931 she and her niece came to A few days before her one hundred and third birthday on September 17, Miss Grierson told a reporter, “I came into the world in the same year as the London Crystal Palace. It was the same year, 1851. that the French Empire was born. I remember the Great Fire of London, in 1881, when three miles of docks were burnt. “Why have I lived so long? Oh, just perversity—l didn't specially want to.” she said.
