MILLIONAIRE’S WIDOW
Coroner’s Verdict Of Suicide (N.Z. Prtts Association—Copyright} LONDON, November 6. Mrs Patricia Rank, the 56-year-old widow of Mr J. V. Rank, the millionaire miller and racehorse owner, poisoned herself in her London flat on Monday by taking barbituric acid, a London coroner decided. The coroner recorded a verdict of suicide while the balance of her mind was disturbed. Mrs Rank, found in her nightdress, huddled over her writing desk in the West End luxury fiat where she lived, was suffering from “anxiety neurosis” over her health, the coroner said. Mrs Rank, at one time a well-known racehorse owner in her own right, had no financial worries, her husband having left more than £1,000,000 between her and his daughter when he died in 1952. She was Mr Rank’s second wife and was a sister-in-law of Mr J. Arthur Rank, the British cinema magnate.
