EARLY MOTOR-CARS
Sir,—Recently you had two news items about New Zealand’s first motorcar. Although I do not claim that I know when the first car arrived I do scnow that John Rennie, of Doyleston. had one in 1897. In May 1898. the Southbridge Town Board passed a bylaw restricting the speed of any motorcar to eight miles an hour.—Yours, etc.,
i GEO W. GRAHAM. Tinwald, November, 8, 1954.
RELIGION IN SCHOOLS Sir,—Further to my recent letter on religion in schools, I desire to ask, through your columns, if the Minister of Education (Mr Algie) would explain the difference between a “spiritual” and a “religious” education? He has sometimes stated that a “spiritual” education already exists in the schools. He, now being on the war-path, the above query should not be amiss at the present time.—Yours, etc.,
JAS. HILL. Belfast, November 5, 1954.
