A. AND P. SHOWS
Sir,—l read in “The Press” of Tuesday about Jersey breeders going to the Royal show at Palmerston North. Also, some breeders went to the Invercargill Royal show. All these shows insist on compulsory T.B. testing. Yet, at our own local shows the breeders will not show their Jersey cattle. Why? They are against T.B. testing, yet will travel to a Royal show. I am curious to know how long’it will last before they start showing locally.—Yours, etc., M CURIOUS ONLOOKER. November 4, 1954. L “Jersey breeders who are boycotting the local shows took the attitude that the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Northern Association were previous in asking that cattle be T.B. tested,” said Mr F. E. Martyn, chairman of the cattle section of the Canterbury association, himself a Jersey breeder. “The Government has been d ? alin B Wlth the question but has had difficulties with compensation problems. My opinion is that every cow "?Zealand should be tested for T.B. Breeders from the North Canterbury Jersey Club and the Mid-Can-terbury club took an aircraft to Palmerston North at a cost of about £92 each way to exhibit their cattle m exactly the same conditions as prevail in local associations.”]
